Spam

This blog gets a lot of spam comments – there were 270+ pending comments when I turned on the captcha check last week.  Most of them are like this…

Seldom clearly and found was born captopril tablet clinical data the country wolfed his due course zetia lipitor him choose and why tribe and zyloprim 100 mg property seized suspicion that the god gaining weight flexeril because soon the gear she brought prescription drug levoxyl its last home rule not for 65 compound propoxyphene maybe that them many point out

But then, amist all of the multi-paragraph commercials, I found this gem…

I’m not sure you have this right ;-)  But thank you for a post!

?!?!  What is the point to this?  The poster’s webpage was an advertisement, so this is another spamming idea — post a comment that is similar to what a real person would say so that the blog admin approves it and makes your webpage available.  This gets me thinking, “The spammer thought a negative comment was more likely to be approved.”  But then it got me thinking, “What if spam’s only purpose was to insult?”

  1. I can tell you tried very hard to make this a good post.  Sorry.
  2. You are so wrong I don’t know where to start.
  3. There is a spelling error above, but you won’t find it!

Imagine how damaging that could be for a fresh and new blogger.  Or if you got these by email instead of promises of Viagra and penile enhancement.  Oy.

… So… the captchas seem to be working so far.
